Much like this website it is focuses on the climate of the Northeast United States, but most of the concepts and ideas can be taken anywhere in the world.
Paradise Lot is part edible plant bible, part memoir, and part step by step guide to setting up a back yard urban oasis. Eric and Jonathan provide you with their many plant failures as well as their wins. Their insight into how particular plants performed for them will give you a headstart in planning out your newest edible perennial addition to your garden. Paradise Lot is worth purchasing simply for the plant lists themselves. Eric and Jonathan Bates give a first hand look at which plants perform in which conditions. Their lineup of edible berry plants and times harvested is astounding and is something I would like love to mimic in my garden.
At slightly over 200 pages Paradise Lot is a quick read, each page leaves you wanting to run out and start planting your own garden. It takes us thru the journey of how 2 plant enthusiasts went from researching edible perennial plants to getting their hands dirty growing plants and their community. Paradise Lot will help you see the possibilities of edible perennials and hopefully convince you to plant a few more perennials in your garden this coming spring.
This would make a great Christmas gift for the gardener in your family this year. If you have read Paradise Lot we would love to hear your thoughts in our comments section or thru email.
